ECO-NANO's first meeting was held in May 20, 2008 in ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization) secretariat, in Tehran. The meeting hosted delegates from Iran, Afghanistan, Ghazaghistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, ECO secretariat, COMSTECH and IDB (Islamic Development Bank).
Part of the agenda was Iran’s report addressing national plans, objectives and achievements in nanotechnology field and Ghazzaghistan’s report on national nanotechnology development vision. COMSTECH’s representative also made points about international networks’ related experiences.
Among the main ratifications of the meeting were:
• Active contribution of ECO technology transfer center to nanotechnology related activities; • Cooperation of member countries with Iran, Pakistan and Turkey in order to create nanotechnology network with the aid of COMSTECH and IDB funding; • Initiating nano-network website for uploading information, status and potentials of member countries; • Preparing a list of member countries’ nanotechnology-related capabilities.
Finally, Iran’s work plan considering creation of nano-network was considered and ratified after some alteration.
